My second option for digitising my actors was 3D Laser Scanning. I wanted to experiment all available options to choose the best one so I contacted AUT BioDesign lab and I have been generously offered to use their facilities. 3D Laser Scanner calculates the topology of a 3D object by casting a (harmless) laser beam and calculating the distance when receives back the light reflection. 3d laser scanners can be easily fooled by reflective surfaces so we asked our actors to remove any reflective accessories or garment in scanning session. Also, pretty much like photogrammetry session, the subject should be motionless throughout scanning process. Below is a short video explaining 3d laser scanning process in Stella Project.
